Everyone these days is looking online for new service providers and new products. The Internet brought with it new ways to communicate and more competition, but it also allows you to reach out to more prospects for your own business. The basic question is: How will these people find you? |
The easiest and most effective way to be raise visibility and brand your company on the Internet is to register your own domain name and use the same name in your e-mail address. For example, if your e-mail address is dan@autogarage.com, most people will probably assume Dan does car repairs and they can learn more about his business at a website with the same name -www.autogarage.com. On the other hand, if your e-mail address is nondescript, like with AOL.com, SBCglobal.com or some other vague name, no one will know much about you and they probably won’t bother to click to your site to find out.

Your own domain name is also important in giving your customers a way to find you should your service provider change. Let’s say you move outside the service area of your Internet provider or the company goes out of business. You take your domain name with you, regardless of the changes in service companies. Can you imagine having to change all of your contact information after being forced to create a new e-mail address because of circumstances out of your control? It would be like loosing your phone number that everyone uses to reach you and starting over. |
